Shen is a visual artist based in Spokane, Washington. In 2025, He earned his BFA from Easter Washington University. His work has also been featured in a few exhibitions, like EWU’s upcoming 2025 Creative Works Symposium.

Using a variety of media, including digital painting, colored pencils as well as textiles, his work often features vibrant color pallets and themes of nostalgia. Inspired by the animatronics and creature designs of Kirk Thatcher and Jim Henson growing up, Shen enjoys practicing his character design and aims to practice it professionally. Through his art, Shen hopes to encourage others to do what makes them happy, and to not take themselves too seriously.

My work explores color and emotions through the idea that we take ourselves too seriously. As an autistic person who was diagnosed later in life, I grew up being told that I was immature. My art often explores fun and childlike themes, and combines it with my own experiences with childhood trauma, mental illness and healing. Through these combined themes, I can encourage others to think about their own relationship with their inner child.

Color is an extremely important part of my work. I often work in vibrant and saturated colors, which contrast with my themes to add energy and intensity into my art. I like to rely on how the colors work together to tell their story instead of making my imagery the sole focus.
